Dr. Allison Wirt, OD, MS

Dr. Wirt is a fully-licensed doctor of optometry and research scientist based in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Wirt is a graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Dr. Wirt is licensed to the highest credentials in Alabama and Tennessee. She is thoroughly trained in the maintenance of chronic ocular disease, ocular trauma occurrences, post-operative examination of cataracts and strabismus, pediatric eye exams, and routine eye exams.

Before she began her optometric education, Dr. Wirt was a tutor and supplementary educator for children of all ages. She has a particular interest in dysfunctions of eye coordination such as strabismus or amblyopia as well as myopia progression management. For routine infant exams, she is a provider for the InfantSee program which offers free screenings for ocular conditions that may affect babies from newborn to 12 months of age. Dr. Wirt is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association. When she is not in clinic, she enjoys playing with her one-year-old son and spending time on creative projects.
